Personal care

In personal care applications, precise pH control is essential to maintain the skin's natural acid mantle (pH 4.5–5.5) and ensure long-term product stability.

pH buffering and formulation stability

Sodium acetate (INCI name) is used together with acetic acid to create stable buffer systems in lotions, creams, and serums. It ensures that active ingredients, such as alpha-hydroxy acids and vitamins, remain stable and non-irritating throughout the product's shelf life.

It is therefore widely used as a buffer and stabilizer in cosmetic and medical wet wipes.

Hair care

In shampoos and conditioners, sodium acetate helps neutralize alkaline residues left behind by surfactants. It helps seal the hair cuticle, enhancing shine and reducing static electricity.

Skin barrier support

Calcium acetate is occasionally used in specialized skin barrier creams. It provides soluble calcium ions (Ca²⁺), which play an important role in epidermal differentiation and the skin's natural barrier repair mechanisms.
